Yap began his legal career as a law tutor in a private institution of higher learning and he came into legal practice in 2005 under the chambers of Chan Kean Li.
Yap’s legal practice mainly encompasses matters related to family law [divorce, children and matrimonial proceedings], alternative dispute resolution and corporate documentation [such which includes but not limited to the drafting of Share Sale Agreement, Subscription of Shares Agreement and Shareholders Agreement] as well as corporate governance. He also represents both individual and corporate clients in real estate transactions [such which includes but not limited to the drafting and attending of Sale & Purchase Agreements and Financing/Loan related documentation] and regularly attends to project development work. Yap has acted as Counsel for Financial Institutions for the recovery of forfeited property under the Dangerous Drugs (Forfeiture of Property) Act 1980, Customs Act 1967 and Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act 2001.
As part of his continuing professional development, Yap had completed the KLRCA Certificate in Adjudication Course [under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act (CIPAA) 2012] and is empanelled as an Adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (formerly known as KLRCA). He is also a pioneer Fellow member of the Asian Institute of Alternative Dispute Resolution (AIADR) and has been empanelled as a Mediator and Arbitrator of the AIADR for the term of 2022-2025.
A believer in human capital, Yap also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management.
